Music Ministry

The University of Notre Dame Liturgical Choir, provides music for the 10AM Solemn Mass during the academic year. The choir, led by director Dr. Gail Walton and assistant director Dr. Andrew McShane, is composed of approximately 70 undergraduate and graduate students and performs a diverse repertoire of sacred music from the Renaissance period through the twentieth century. During summer months, the Basilica Collegium Choir, under the direction of Dr. Andrew McShane, provides the music ministry.

Television Production

Television broadcast of the Mass is made possible by utilizing six robotic cameras specifically placed so as not to disrupt the solemnity of the Mass nor the beauty of the Basilica. Special technical effort has been made to capture the choral voices as they are heard by the congregation in the Basilica. Technical production of the Mass is accomplished locally by Pentavision Communications Inc. which operates the studio and visual equipment from a control room located in the basement of the Basilica. WNDU-TV sends the broadcast via fiber optics to CatholicTV's master control.
